Celebrate Freedom Week

In honor of Celebrate Freedom Week (Sept. 24 - Sept. 28) our class participated in a few Reader’s Theaters celebrating the U.S. Constitution.  I have finally gotten around to uploading the podcasts of these theaters. I am very excited about how hard our students worked to create these. They were very excited and have been anxiously waiting for me to get them out there for everyone to hear. I hope you enjoy listening as much as they enjoyed making them. Please let us know what you think!

This week we have been learning about the digestive systom and how it works. In reading we have been learning about predictions,  and how it can help us read and understand.  Now writing you ask - We have done a monster report and wrote (described using vivid adjectives :-) )  what it looks like.  In social  studies we wrote to Queen Isabella for Coulumbus day.  What would Christopher Columbus say?

Do you make predictions when you read? What did you think about digestive systom ?  What did you think about our making a monster and writing for Coulumbus?

Grandparent’s Day

We had such a wonderful time visiting with our grandparents this week. I could see how excited my students were to introduce me to their grandparents, and again to show their grandparents their class and all of their hard work. I hope that you enjoyed your visit as much as we did! Students and grandparents, what was your favorite part of last week?

We would love for you to listen to our Reader’s Theater in celebration of Grandparent’s Day! Click on the link and then be sure to let us know what you think!

This week was a pretty normal week.  We started our week out by doing morning work.  We did afternoon work.  I think we all enjoyed a great week.  We had fun at recess and learned a lot.

Another Great Week!

I cannot believe how quickly time is flying by! We are becoming comfortable in our expectations of each other, and I believe we make a great team. I could not be happier with my class! If you cannot tell, we have been working really hard in science! We have studied the nature of science and completed many experiments to answer questions and identify the importance of properties in science. I am very proud of how hard we all worked at following Science Lab Safety in our exploration of glue this week! Pat yourselves on the back for a job well done.

Have you asked yourself what you learned? Revisit in your mind our exploration, and don’t just remember how much fun you had. Think about the scientific process and the study of properties behind it. What did you learn?

We will soon begin work on our latest podcast which I hope to make a large group effort! So be on the lookout for that….

From Class Reporter - Bob

On Monday we guessed what ingredients we would use to make glue. As soon as I heard ingredients, the first thing that popped into my head was salame!!!! But we had to pick between certain ones which I did not like! On Thursday we made the glue; my group took longer but our glue was pretty strong. On Friday we looked at the beans and my groups beans were still on - thank goodness!

Water drops on a penny!?

pennyexperiment1.jpg             pennyexperiment2.jpg

We had another awesome activity in science this week. As we looked at the Nature of Science and the scientific process, we learned that it all begins with a question! So we asked ourselves…. “How many drops of water will fit on a penny?” Were you surprised in our discovery? What do scientist do after they experiment?

From Class Reporter - Candygirl

Hi, I’m Candygirl with reports from last weeks work. Last week we learned in reading  six ways to help you read actively: Mark or highlight as you read; React to and connect with the reading;  Ask questions???; Create pictures in your mind; Make things clear as you read; and Predict what will hapen.  I think those are some good ways to help you read!

(Morgan and Christian share these active reading strategies in our latest podcast…..    Active Reading Strategies )

In math we learned what a factor is, what a product is, and what a quotient is. We also learned in math what multiplication  properties are. I thought that was a pretty good thing to learn.

Last week was when we finaly started writing - because writing is my favorite subject.  And we got to share our ideas. That was fun.

In fluency we got to do a girl team and a boy team and see who could sound the sleepiest and it was a tie because Mrs.Dunn said it was to hard to decide.

This was my favorite part about last week -  we got to…….. taste test jelly beans!!! It was for science we had a chart and we had to guess what flavor than taste it. It was so good and fun!

Last week my least favorite thing was when we first got our homework ah-oh .

But school is fun and you need to go for your education, and to make school more fun think of it as your job and you’re at work. ( : always smile and be happy at school.

This  report is educational and I’m out!

Jelly Bean Scientist

jelly-bean-scientist2.jpg

Today was so much fun. We have learned so much in two weeks. I hope that you had fun as we learned about “properties” and “classification.” I cannot think of a better way to learn about these things than classifying and eating jelly beans! You all did a super job! I will be working on adding a slide show to our website soon. Now I want to ask you the same question that I did today. How do your senses help you classify objects in science? What do you think?
