OK guys…I have not read many of those New Year’s resolutions yet!

Are you guys having any luck keeping them? I have had a bit of trouble. You know it is always easier to make the resolutions than it is to keep them. I am still working very hard at being more organized. That one can be a tough one!

What has been the hardest resolution for you to keep?

Can you believe another year has flown away so quickly? I can’t! The neat thing about a new year is that feeling of starting fresh! “This year is going to be……” or “This year I will…..” What are your New Year’s resolutions? I will think more about mine and get back to you. Why don’t you share yours now…..

Merry Christmas

Super Busy Week!!

Wow! This has been such a busy week. I cannot believe that we got so much done. We celebrated Cabot Homecoming Spirit Week and Fire Safety Week. We learned much about the digestive system; along with a lot of new (yucky, according to the kids) words! We began a Monster Exchange with Mrs. Marshall’s class, in order to practice for the big Monster Exchange Project we do with some pen pal friends.  Our class reporter Weathergirl told you a little about our persuasive letters to Queen Isabella of Spain. And we can’t forget that we are preparing for next week’s Parent/Teacher Conferences. I am sure that you will all be proud of your hard working kids. Mrs. Grizzell and I sure are! I thought I would share some of the funny pics of the week to see what you think.

Digestive Fun

carrots.jpg     carrots1.jpg     carrots2.jpg

We used carrots to see just where the digestive process begins. We took a bite of our carrot and chewed 10 times. Then can you believe…we spit it out to look at it. GGGGRRROOOSSS! Then we took a second bite and chewed 30 times. Then, you guessed it….we spit it out again! Even more GGGGGGRRRROOOOSSSSS! Then we looked at the difference. There were plenty of yucks and grosses and ewwwws all around; but I know that they had fun. They got to see exactly where it all starts!

stomach1.jpg     stomach2.jpg     stomach3.jpg

To demonstrate the processes of the stomach we used: a ziplock bag, our hands,  crackers, water, and food coloring. We observed how the stomach (ziplock bag) and its acids (food coloring) work with liquids from the liver and pancreas (water) to squish and squeeze (our hands) our solid foods (crackers) into a liquid form that is moved through our intestines. Can you just hear all the yucks, grosses, and eewwwws all over again? I’m still hearing them now! :-) But I have to say it was a lot of fun, and I really think the kids enjoyed it! Let’s just say that this activity generated a lot of conversation about the digestive system!

Students…what do you think? Did you enjoy learning about the digestive system with these fun observations? I already know that you had fun with Spirit Week, but what was your favorite part? Are you using the things you learned about Fire Safety at home? Be sure to share!

Celebrate Freedom Week

In honor of Celebrate Freedom Week (Sept. 24 - Sept. 28) our class participated in a few Reader’s Theaters celebrating the U.S. Constitution.  I have finally gotten around to uploading the podcasts of these theaters. I am very excited about how hard our students worked to create these. They were very excited and have been anxiously waiting for me to get them out there for everyone to hear. I hope you enjoy listening as much as they enjoyed making them. Please let us know what you think!

This week we have been learning about the digestive systom and how it works. In reading we have been learning about predictions,  and how it can help us read and understand.  Now writing you ask - We have done a monster report and wrote (described using vivid adjectives :-) )  what it looks like.  In social  studies we wrote to Queen Isabella for Coulumbus day.  What would Christopher Columbus say?

Do you make predictions when you read? What did you think about digestive systom ?  What did you think about our making a monster and writing for Coulumbus?
